DMC (Deep Meaningful Conversation) Sewanee

One of our goals is to provide more open communication between the school and the students about topics that matter to the well-being of the Sewanee community. The Let's Talk Campaign and the S.S.S.D.U works to educate and facilitate open dialogue about mental health, drug and alcohol use, and other pressing matters.

Deep, Meaningful Conversation, formerly known as the 'Let's Talk' campaign, continues its programming this year. In conjunction with the Student Government Association, the Interfraternity Council, the Intersorority Council, and the Peer Health House,  the Let’s Talk Program saw a significant resurgence as we programmed discourse around mental health, drug use, and other topics in the Advent 2022 semester. During each campaign, the Order of the Gown and Let’s Talk Organization fostered discussion and awareness through tabling sessions, well attended dialogues, and poster campaigns around campus. As a result of the Let’s Talk Campaign around drug use on Sewanee’s campus, the above student organizations as well as myriad others joined together to form an organization focused around drug use on Sewanee’s campus, “Sewanee Students for Sensible Drug Use (S.S.S.D.U.)”. This organization put on a week of programming this fall, inviting speakers to come to campus, holding a campus-wide discussion, and hosting a Narcan training session for students across campus. Both organizations look to have a successful easter semester, hopefully facilitating meaningful discussion around impactful topics on Sewanee’s campus.
